4 Previous studies reporting acceptable validity for MoCA for cognitive impairment defined using a neuropsychological battery had small sample sizes, 4–6 and none, to our knowledge, has assessed reliability for NCD defined by the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) 7 criteria in a poststroke population. 2Ī neuropsychological test battery is considered the gold standard for diagnosing NCD poststroke 3 but may not be feasible in routine clinical practice, and short pragmatic screening tools such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) are required. 2 Early identification of NCD poststroke is, therefore, important to facilitate personalized management and follow-up.
